Khristiian Brauzmann’s 11th minute strike ultimately separated the two sides following a keenly-fought contest at Dolen Omurzakov Stadium as Kyrgyz Republic ended a three-match losing streak while DPR Korea remained in search of a first victory.
“It was a difficult match and we were given a real test by the Korean team,” said Lisitsyn. “However, we managed to score early and that determined the course of the match.
“We are satisfied with this result and it will serve as motivation for the coming matches.”
While Kyrgyz Republic were dominant in the first half and could have scored more, they were put under tremendous pressure after the break as DPR Korea looked for a way back.
The home side were able to withstand the constant pressure, thanks largely to Kichin’s impressive work in the heart of their defence with the 32-year-old centre-back producing numerous clearances and putting his body on the line.
“The match turned out to be very difficult because the opponents kept fighting,” said Kichin. “In every corner of the field, we battled, suffered but did enough to overcome their pressure.
“With the result, we managed to change our place in the standings and as such, were able to please the fans, which is the most important thing.”
Lisitsyn and Kichin will look to build on the win when they take on the United Arab Emirates on November 14 while DPR Korea face group leaders Islamic Republic of Iran.
