Malaysia’s JDT twice led through Arif Aiman in a pulsating match at the Pudong Football Stadium only for Shanghai to fight back through goals from Gustavo and Willian Popp.
Muscat was proud of the resilience his players showed.
“A big credit to the team. There were moments in the first half where we didn’t press quite right, and maybe we were too eager to score,” said the Australian.
“But we played much better in the second half, with a lot more patience. Starting the first game with a point is good, and now we can move on to the next game.”
Bidoglio was happy to share points after what he said had been a difficult game.
“It was a very difficult game but JDT played very well. We played very compactly but the opponents were equally good,” said the Venezuelan
“We need to score more and continue growing. In our mind we need to always win. But earning a point when you play away is good. We need to prove ourselves in every game but I’m happy with the performance from our players.”
