The six-goal thriller saw Bangkok twice taking the lead only for Tampines to pull level each time before Richairo Zivkovic and Bassel Jradi sealed the points for the home side.
Despite the rain-soaked pitch at Thammasat Stadium, Bangkok began with plenty of gusto as Richairo Zivkovic got in on the left after two minutes and forced Tampines goalkeeper Syazwan Buhari into a decent save at his near post.
The Thai League 1 2023/24 runners-up continued to ask questions of Tampines’ defence with further efforts from Thitiphan Puangjan and Mahmoud Dhadha that were dealt with by Syazwan.
Bangkok came close to breaking the deadlock from a Shah Shahiran miskick that bounced off his own crossbar before Thitiphan’s goal-bound shot was cleared on the line by Shuya Yamashita.
The home side’s persistence finally paid dividends in the third minute of added time when Pokklaw A-nan picked out Muhsen Al Ghassani, who cut inside of Shah before dispatching a shot into the bottom far corner.
Tampines came out fighting at the start of the second half, producing their first shot on target when Faris Ramli beat two defenders and forced a fingertip save from Patiwat Khammai.
The visitors built on that and found their equaliser in the 53rd minute after Seia Kunori’s shot took a heavy deflection off Manuel Tom Bihr and looped over Patiwat.
Bangkok reclaimed their lead 10 minutes later when Everton’s well-placed header from a corner kick was finished off from close range by Al Ghassani.
Kunori drew Tampines level for the second time with his thunderbolt from long distance whizzing past a diving Patiwat in the 72nd minute.
Bangkok, however, found their second wind and went ahead for the third time five minutes later after a penalty was awarded following Jared Gallagher’s foul on Zivkovic with the forward dusting himself off to score from 12 yards with Jradi adding a fourth in stoppage time.
