The Iraqi champions will relish the tie, with Al Nassr’s season having gotten off to a slow start.
Al Shorta convincingly won the Iraq Stars League 2023/24 title, finishing five points ahead of Air Force Club and will be eager to shine against a star-studded Al Nassr.
They will, however, start at a disadvantage as the new domestic season has yet to kick off while the records are also not in their favour – having only won once in six matches against opposition from Saudi Arabia.
Al Nassr will be desperate to get their continental challenge off to a winning start after their early troubles in the Saudi Pro League 2024/25 season.
A goal deep into added time salvaged them a point against Al Ahli Saudi FC on Friday, leaving them four points adrift of pacesetters Al Hilal SFC and Al Ettifaq.
