Singapore’s Sailors will host the first leg at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Wednesday with the return fixture to be played a week later.
Sailors edged closer to the Singapore Premier League title, an 8-0 win over Young Lions on Sunday keeping them seven points ahead of Tampines Rovers with 11 matches remaining.
They will also draw confidence from their quarter-final win against Sanfrecce Hiroshima with the Japanese side producing an immense effort to turn the tie in their favour after the first leg was awarded 3-0 in favour of Sailors.
Sanfrecce, who won the first leg 6-1 but were defaulted the result for fielding an ineligible player, dominated the return fixture but could only walk away with a 1-1 draw.
A draw on Wednesday, however, will not suffice for Sailors with Sydney an extremely potent outfit at home.
The Australian side will not hold back either and will draw inspiration from their 2-0 away win against Korea Republic’s Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in the first leg of their quarter-final.
A remarkable turnaround in the return leg saw them overcoming a 2-0 deficit to walk away 3-2 winners on the night and 5-2 on aggregate and Sydney can be expected to bring the same spirit into the semi-finals.
