East Asia & ASEAN Wrap: Shanghai Port stay hot, Perth Glory win thriller
Shanghai Port registered their 15th consecutive victory as they edged closer to retaining the Chinese Super League title with a 1-0 win over Shandong Taishan.

The Australia Cup saw Perth Glory and Melbourne City produce a classic with the former emerging as winners in the Round of 32 clash.

China PR: Wu Lei strikes to keep Shanghai Port well ahead
Wu Lei scored his 24th goal of the season as Shanghai Port edged Shandong Taishan 1-0 in their Chinese Super League showdown.

China PR striker Wu Lei netted in the 66th minute as Shanghai Port stayed five points clear of Shanghai Shenhua, whose hopes suffered a setback following a last-gasp 2-1 defeat to Beijing FC.

Beijing took the lead in the 11th minute through Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui but Shenhua looked to have salvaged a point through Cephas Malele’s 76th minute equaliser.

Wang Ziming, however, struck in the seventh minute of second half additional time to claim the three points for Beijing.

Shanghai Port are on 60 points with eight matches remaining while Shenhua are seven clear of third-placed Chengdu Rongchen, who defeated Changchun Yatai 4-0.
Australia: Perth Glory lead cast into Round of 16
Perth Glory won a titanic battle against Melbourne City to come away 5-4 winners after extra time to advance to the Round of 16 of the Australia Cup 2024.

After an eventful 90 minutes of football that saw both sides take turns to be in front, it eventually ended 4-4 – sending the match into extra time where Nathaniel Blair struck the winner in the 115th minute.
Macarthur FC survived a scare before edging O’Connor Knights as goals from Jake Hollman and Luke Brattan saw them overturn Phakedi Manda’s opener for the lower league side.

Sydney FC suffered an upset after they went down 3-1 to second division outfit Oakleigh Cannons but there were wins for Moreton City Excelsior, Hume City, Adelaide United, Western Sydney Wanderers, Newcastle Jets and Lions FC.

Seven remaining ties of the Round of 32 will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Malaysia: JDT set up final encounter against Selangor
Reigning FA Cup champions Johor Darul Ta’zim were forced to work hard but a spirited second half performance saw them defeat Kedah Darul Aman 3-0 in the second leg of the Malaysia FA Cup semi-final to advance with a 5-1 aggregate win.

Centre-back Feroz Baharudin opened the scoring in the 50th minute before further goals from Bergon da Silva and Juan Muniz settled the contest, giving JDT the opportunity to claim their third straight title win in this competition.

Their opponents in the final will be Selangor, who produced an exciting comeback after losing 3-2 in the first leg with a 4-1 win over Terengganu in the return leg to stay in the hunt for a trophy.

Singaporean Safuwan Baharudin was the toast of the side, scoring a hat-trick with Reziq Banihani adding the others while Terengganu’s solitary goal came via Ishmaeel Akinade.

Meanwhile earlier in the week in the Super League, JDT dropped their first points of the season after they were held to a 1-1 draw by PDRM but still retained their six-point lead over Selangor, who also drew 1-1 with Sri Pahang.

Kuala Lumpur City earned a 3-0 win against Sabah to stay third with Terengganu picking up a 3-2 success over Negeri Sembilan. Other results saw Penang beat Kelantan Darul Naim 3-0 while Kuching City edged Perak 2-1.
Chinese Taipei: Taichung Futuro stay ahead
Taichung Futuro defeated Taipei Vikings 6-1 to maintain a one-point lead at the top of the Chinese Premier League.

TSG Tainan City kept pace with the leaders with a 3-0 defeat of Shihu, with Taichung Futuro on 25 points after 10 matches.

Taipower are a distant third on 17 points, one ahead of AC Taipei.

Indonesia: Arema take Piala Presiden
Arema FC secured their fourth Piala Presiden success after they beat Borneo Samarinda 5-4 on penalties. William Marcilio put Arema ahead in the 49th minute but Borneo fought back to equalise through Leo Gaucho in the 62nd minute.

It was down to a penalty shootout after extra time couldn’t separate the two sides with Ronaldo’s miss for Borneo being the decider as Arema were perfect from their five kicks.

The new Liga 1 season is scheduled to start on August 9.
Myanmar: Hantharwady pull level with Shan
Hantharwady United closed the gap with Shan United at the top of the standings in the Myanmar National League after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Dagon Star United, taking full advantage of Shan’s 2-2 draw with Yangon United.

Both Shan and Hantharwady are on 13 points from five matches with Shan ahead with a better goal difference while Yangon are two points adrift in third.
Singapore: Tampines extend unbeaten run
Tampines Rovers continued their excellent form with a 3-0 win against Tanjong Pagar to maintain their one-point lead over Lion City Sailors at the top of the Singapore Premier League.

Still without a defeat after 11 matches, Tampines produced a blistering first half performance with goals from Boris Kopitovi, Seia Kunori and Faris Ramli to claim their ninth win of the season.

Meanwhile, the Sailors were themselves 3-0 winners against DPMM with Lennart Thy hitting a brace. Elsewhere saw Hougang United earn a 1-0 win against Geylang International while Albirex Niigata S defeated Young Lions 2-1.
